Eckington’s Sitwell Arms Hotel to undergo significant upgrade with £1m funding

Sitwell Arms Hotel, an independent family-owned establishment in Eckington near Sheffield, is preparing for a major transformation fueled by over £1m in funding from Cambridge & Counties Bank.

The hotel, located between Sheffield and Chesterfield and boasting a Grade II listed building with roots dating back to the 18th century, is set for a substantial upgrade. With 30 rooms and a history as a coaching inn, it attracts various visitors, including those exploring the nearby Peak District.

Led by Jo-Anne Oldfield, a long-term owner who began working at the hotel at the age of 14, the upgrade will involve expanding the public lounge, improving accommodations, tackling maintenance projects, and enhancing wedding and event facilities. An adjacent house will also be refurbished for rental purposes.

Oldfield said: “We passionately believe the Sitwell Arms offers a wonderful experience to all types of guests, and we’re truly excited by our upgrade programme. Opportunities and requirements continue to evolve post-pandemic, so we have invested to ensure we are delivering the best possible experience at fantastic value.”

Cambridge & Counties Bank’s support for the initiative was facilitated by Alan Laslett from Real Property Finance Ltd. The bank has been growing its real estate team to cater to increasing demand for tailored solutions. In 2022, the bank expanded its Real Estate Finance team by nearly a third, the highest influx in any single year since its establishment in 2012.

Michelle Stevenson, relationship manager at Cambridge & Counties Bank, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Jo-Anne and the team at the Sitwell Arms Hotel. It is a wonderful, historic venue in a great location and benefits from strong demand from a large number of different types of guests.”
