Propertymark calls for renewed focus on sustainable housing

In light of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s decision to scrap proposed Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) regulations for landlords yesterday, Propertymark has called for a renewed focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly homes.

With an intensifying demand for sustainable housing, the industry body said planning should remain ambitious, yet achievable.

According to Propertymark, Government plans intended to attain an overall net zero by 2050 must demonstrate consistency to enable planning and implementation.

The body has called for the Government to take into full consideration to the scale of the challenges, such as the skillsets needed to bring about transformation, and how contractors will scale themselves to meet legislation.

Nathan Emerson, CEO of Propertymark, said: “Propertymark believe in robust forward provision to ensure the economics of any net zero targets are fully balanced and that investors, homeowners and landlords have support and motivation to initiate the required changes.

“All new targets must be fully backed by legislation that incentivises and encourages people rather than ever penalise them.”
