Brokers worked every hour of the week in 2023, Coventry Building Society reveals

There was no single hour of the week in 2023 when brokers were not working, according to analysis from Coventry Building Society.

The lender identified this statistic in the hopes it would highlight how tirelessly brokers worked over the year, and encourage them to relax this Christmas.

In a review of its website statistics, the lender found there was no day or time this year where brokers were not using the intermediary site.

In a typical week, brokers were least active at 4am on Monday, but even at that time there were still instances of brokers using the site to submit cases, check lending criteria or review products.

The busiest time for broker activity was typically 11am on Tuesday.

The lender said it hopes brokers will step away from their computers over Christmas and enjoy the festive period after working hard all year.

Jonathan Stinton (pictured), head of intermediary relationships at Coventry Building Society, said: “Brokers have worked around the clock this year, literally checking cases at two and three o’clock in the morning, to look after their clients.

“Now it’s time for them to shut down their computers, turn off their phones, and put themselves and their own mental health first.

“This year brokers have had to help their clients through five base rate increases and mortgage rates reaching a 15 year high.

“Clients will of course value their broker, but they might not always appreciate just how tirelessly brokers have worked to make sure their mortgage is taken care of.

“Brokers haven’t just done a standard nine to five, Monday to Friday job, they’ve been going above and beyond by working evenings, weekends, and in some cases all hours of the night to help their clients.

“It can’t have been easy, but that’s exactly why brokers and their admin teams deserve to look back on the year and feel proud, before winding down to enjoy a relaxing Christmas break.”
