Market Harborough Building Society launches Doshi app to boost financial literacy

Market Harborough Building Society (MHBS) has launched a financial education app called Doshi, aimed at improving money management skills and financial mindfulness for its members and the local community.

This initiative is part of MHBS’s Thrive! Agenda, which focuses on helping individuals secure homes and build financial resilience.

The Thrive! Agenda has included significant donations, such as £150,000 to local foodbanks and homelessness charities, £150,000 for various local charities through their community foundation, and a £2.2m affordable housing programme to help families in Lutterworth and Market Harborough access safe housing.

MHBS also reintroduced banking services to the high street with the OneBanx kiosk at its Market Harborough branch and offers free meeting spaces at its new head office.

A survey conducted by Opinium for Abrdn in June 2024 found that around 23 million British adults, which is roughly two-fifths of the population, have low financial literacy.

The Doshi app offers engaging lessons and real-life rewards to help users improve their financial wellness.

Users can set goals like saving for emergencies or reducing money-related stress and earn points through lessons, frequent logins, and referrals, which can be redeemed for gift cards from popular retailers.

Iain Kirkpatrick, CEO at MHBS, said: “We’re incredibly proud to support our members with their financial well-being through the launch of Doshi.

“With research showing approximately 23 million British adults exhibiting low financial literacy, our app empowers our community with the tools they need to manage their money better.

“We are committed to making a positive difference for our members and ensuring our local community thrives.”

Daniel Rose, founder of Doshi, said: “At Doshi, our mission is to empower UK adults with greater confidence in managing their money, no matter their age.

“The Thrive agenda represents a bold and impactful step towards that goal, and we’re excited to contribute to this initiative, enhancing the financial well-being of adults in Market Harborough.”

The Doshi app, referred to as the UK’s ‘Duolingo of Money’, partners with more than 15 financial organisations, including building societies, to offer engaging financial education.

It is available for download via a QR code on MHBS’s website for both the App Store and Google Play Store.
