Unity Trust Bank has appointed British economist Lord John Eatwell (pictured) as an independent non-executive director.
Eatwell has had a notable career, serving as a professor, political adviser, and member of the House of Lords.
He also has experience in banking, financial policy, and regulation.
Eatwell taught economics at Cambridge, where he was Professor of Financial Policy and served as President of Queens’ College for over 20 years.
He began focusing on policy issues related to employment, growth, and finance in the early 1980s, becoming an economic adviser to former Labour Party Leader Neil Kinnock.
He also worked as a financial services regulator in London and chaired the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
Eatwell said: “I’m excited to join Unity’s board because it brings together all of the elements of my career that I’m interested in.
“Unity has a ‘double bottom-line’ strategy of careful and responsible financing alongside a commitment to social purpose.
“The bank has performed remarkably well since becoming independent nine years ago and I’m looking forward to being involved in its next stage of growth.”
Alan Hughes, chairman of Unity Trust Bank, said: “John’s extensive experience, knowledge, and insights will be a tremendous asset to Unity.
“I am delighted to welcome him to the board.”
