HM Land Registry embraces Qualified Electronic Signatures in digital transformation push

HM Land Registry has announced it is now inviting conveyancers to begin submitting applications that include documents signed using a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) tool.

The move signals a significant step forward in the agency’s digital transformation agenda and its commitment to embracing secure and efficient technological advancements in the property sector.

The Registry is actively encouraging lawyers, clients, and lenders who are interested in the new digital capability to take advantage of the benefits offered by QES.

The technology eliminates the need for a third party to witness the execution of a deed, replacing the traditional method with a highly secure and fully digital signature process.

According to HM Land Registry, this change introduces greater flexibility and simplicity in the handling of legal documents related to land registration.

The QES tool is also being promoted for the additional security and assurance it provides to all parties involved in a property transaction.

Andy Roddy, deputy director – digital services at HM Land Registry, said: “We are excited to enable our customers the option to use Qualified Electronic Signatures in their land registration applications.

“This marks another major step forward in our ongoing digital transformation, as we keep pace with – and meet the needs of – our most technologically advanced customers. We hope all of our customers will be able to benefit from this new and valuable technology.”
