Tenants more satisfied with landlords than letting agents, poll finds

Tenants were more satisfied renting from individual landlords than letting agents, new research conducted by Pegasus Insights found.

The poll showed 70% of tenants renting directly from a landlord said their experience was positive, while 60% of those renting through a letting agent said the same.

Only 7% reported a negative experience.

81% of tenants renting from an individual landlord said they were satisfied with the service, compared to 73% renting from a build-to-rent company and 68% renting through a letting agent.

Ben Beadle, chief executive of the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA), said: “These findings underline what we have long known.

“Smaller, individual landlords are an essential part of the rental market and consistently deliver some of the best outcomes for tenants.

“As ministers continue to reform the private rented sector, it’s vital they recognise the positive role of responsible landlords, as well as the importance of trust-based relationships between tenants and landlords.”

Beadle added: “Policy decisions, and the rhetoric around the sector, must be informed by these facts.”
