Vernon Building Society has been awarded ‘Employer of the Year’ at the Stockport Business Awards, recognised for its workplace culture and support for the community.
Judges wanted to see firms with a supportive workplace, skilled and motivated teams, and proof that staff are brought in on company goals and values.
They looked at how this affected business performance.
Vernon’s entry showed how it has changed from a traditional financial employer to a modern, values-led business.
The society reached its highest employee engagement scores in 2025.
It has an average employee tenure of 7.67 years, with 43% of colleagues remaining with the organisation for over five years.
