Valleys to Coast secures funding to build 35 affordable homes in Tondu

Bridgend-based housing association Valleys to Coast has secured funding to build 35 affordable homes on a long-empty site in Tondu.

The £8.2m development, supported by Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, will include 24 one-bedroom flats and 11 houses for social rent.

All ground-floor flats will feature level-access bathrooms for residents with mobility needs.

The new homes will focus on energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, and improved air quality, using a ‘fabric first’ approach to help residents save on utility bills.

The development in Tondu is expected to complete by August 2026.

James Griffiths, managing director of development and regeneration at Valleys to Coast, said: “Safe, warm and dry homes are fundamental to our wellbeing and sense of security.

“We’re proud to be delivering 35 high-quality and affordable homes, helping future residents build stable and comfortable lives for themselves in Bridgend.”

Max Lewis, senior developer officer at Valleys to Coast, said: “The Brownfield site has been left empty for years, so we’re excited to be breathing new life into the area and supporting the regeneration of Bridgend.

“Developers, Pendragon, are also contributing £16,000 in community benefits, so the impact of the project will be felt not just by residents but by local people too.”
