Orbit increases 2030 housebuilding target to 7,000 homes

Orbit has raised its housebuilding target by over 20%, aiming for 7,000 new and regenerated homes by 2030.

This follows the 5,700 homes set out in its 2030 strategy in April 2024.

The new plan will see Orbit Homes continue to build directly at scale, with around 60% of new homes to be built by Orbit itself.

The group will also keep its focus on affordable housing, including social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.

The strategy links together all parts of Orbit’s work, from new builds to management and regeneration, aiming to provide homes that meet future needs.

Phil Andrew, group CEO at Orbit, said: “Our primary obligation is providing safe, decent and affordable homes for our existing customers.

“However, we are delighted to be able to launch our new strategy for Orbit Homes, including an increased commitment to building and regenerating 7,000 new homes by 2030.

“We know this is an ambitious target but we are determined to continue to build new homes to give more people access to an affordable home, and play our part in helping to tackle the UK’s housing crisis.”

Andrew added: “We’re confident that with the recent measures announced by the Government and the robust strategy we have in place, that we can deliver on these and provide more people with a place they are proud to call home.”
