The Cumberland appoints Martin Glaholm as commercial BDM

The Cumberland Building Society has appointed Martin Glaholm (pictured) as commercial business development manager (BDM) for the North East and Yorkshire.

Glaholm brings over 25 years of commercial banking experience, including roles at Handelsbanken, HSBC and Yorkshire Bank.

In his new position, he will work with businesses across sectors including hospitality, healthcare, professional services, and food and drink to support their growth and funding needs.

His appointment bolsters The Cumberland’s established presence in the North East and Yorkshire, where the society has recently supported projects such as a six-figure funding package for Breamish Valley Cottages to launch a new spa, and tailored support for award-winning bed and breakfast Market Cross during the cost-of-living crisis.

Scott McKerracher, head of commercial at The Cumberland, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Martin to The Cumberland’s Commercial team.

“His wealth of experience in commercial banking and deep understanding of local businesses will be invaluable as we continue to grow our reach in the North East and Yorkshire.

“He shares our commitment to our Kinder Banking ethos, putting people first, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on both the businesses and communities we support.”

Glaholm said: “Joining The Cumberland and having the opportunity to work with and support businesses across the North East and Yorkshire is a fantastic opportunity.

“The Cumberland’s approach is something which really resonates with me and I’m looking forward to working closely with businesses in the region, building lasting relationships which provide them with support.

“I’m excited to help businesses navigate any challenges they may face, unlock growth opportunities, and make a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.”
