Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) has reported strong early results from its new solar carports, confirming that the installations at its Bradford head office have generated enough renewable electricity in six months to power 150 homes for a full year.
The solar carports, installed at Yorkshire Drive on Rooley Lane earlier in 2025, provide sheltered parking for colleagues while generating electricity through rooftop panels.
They operate alongside solar panels fitted to the main office roof in 2014 and additional installations introduced across other sites in 2024.
Together, the three systems form a key part of the society’s strategy to cut emissions across its property estate.
In the six months since commissioning, the installations have produced 550 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity.
Yorkshire Building Society said this output is also equivalent to charging 9,000 electric vehicles and has met nearly one third of the combined electricity needs of two of its sites.
Alex Rance, climate change risk and strategy manager at Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We’re proud to be investing in sustainable infrastructure that benefits both our business and the environment.
“These results show how impactful our solar installations have been in a short space of time. Not only are we reducing our carbon footprint, but we’re also generating clean energy right where it’s needed.
“This is a key step in our journey to Net Zero and complements the renewable energy we already source through the National Grid.”
