Data showed 45% of buyers are motivated by finding more internal or external space for a growing family.

Half of those surveyed were unaware their borrowing power had increased, with some able to borrow £30,000 to £40,000 more than last year.

Only half correctly identified 5% as the typical minimum deposit, while almost 40% thought 10% or more was needed.

Monthly costs were a big factor, with 31% saying paying the same or less than rent was one of their main reasons for wanting to buy.

Three quarters (75%) said they felt positive about their mortgage options, but many are still put off by affordability worries.

MAB stated that the acquisition would allow it to engage with customers earlier in the homebuying process and extend its services beyond mortgage advice.

The case saw NHL help a MAB appointed representative’s (AR's) customer purchase a two-storey flat above a commercial premises for £52,000 after the property was bought at auction.

Alan Richardson will work closely with advisers to improve best practice, customer outcomes and the quality of protection advice.

Reflecting on the past year, MAB noted that while 2025 proved more challenging than many anticipated, declining inflation and interest rates have helped restore confidence.
