Mortgage approvals for house purchases rose to 65,900 in April, above the recent average, while remortgage approvals held steady.

Net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals increased to £6.2bn, up from £5.2bn in February.

The latest Money and Credit report showed that net mortgage approvals for house purchases rose to 62,600 in February from 60,200 in January.

Net mortgage approvals for house purchases increased slightly, rising by 1,000 to 65,900 during the month.

Remortgaging approvals dropped by 900 to 37,900, and net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals fell by £0.2bn to £4.3bn.

Net mortgage approvals for house purchases went up by 800 to 65,400 in July, but remortgage approvals fell by 2,700 to 38,900.

Net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals rose significantly to £5.3bn in June, a marked increase from £2.2bn in May.

This follows a sharp contraction in April, when net borrowing had fallen by £13.8bn to a negative £0.8bn, largely influenced by a maturing government-backed mortgage support scheme.

Net borrowing of mortgage debt by individuals saw a significant rise in March, jumping by £9.7bn to reach £13.0bn.

Mortgage approvals for house purchases also dipped, falling by 600 to 65,500 in February, after a decrease of 400 in January.
