According to the report, each new town should have at least 10,000 homes, aim for at least 40% affordable housing, and half of those should be for social rent.

The committee plans to study if these new developments effectively provide housing and how to ensure their success.

New towns have recorded a 68% increase compared to 69% for the UK as a whole.
