Nottingham Building Society’s charitable foundation donates £50,000 to 12 local charities

Nottingham Building Society has named the 12 local charities being supporting with a total of £50,000 in donations from its Samuel Fox Foundation charitable fund.

Nominated by colleagues of The Nottingham, with a focus on supporting communities with the cost of living, they include charities set up to tackle youth homelessness, a clothes bank, food banks, and a provider of care to children with life limiting conditions.

Ahead of Christmas, the mutual asked all of its team across branches and Head Office to nominate charities based in their local community they would like to see receive a donation.

The final 12 charities selected reflect a diverse mixture of organisations in the regions where The Nottingham has a footprint.

Given the ongoing cost of living crisis, the charities selected are all ones for whom a donation of £2,000-£5,000 will be pivotal in them being able to support more people in need.

In total, The Samuel Fox Foundation has donated almost £110,000 to local charities in 2022.

Set up in 2021 and named after the man who founded The Nottingham in 1849, The Samuel Fox Foundation prioritises supporting projects and causes that help communities thrive.

The chosen charities include Jigsaw Support Scheme in Mansfield, which provides services to allow vulnerable people to live better, safer and happier lives in their own homes. The list also includes High Peak Homeless Help in Buxton, which provides assistance for local homeless people. (A full list of charities receiving donations from The Nottingham is below.)

Sophie Wilkinson, customer services assistant at The Nottingham who works at the West Bridgford branch, nominated The Friary, a local charity for homeless and vulnerable adults: “We have worked closely with The Friary over the last few years, helping with things like volunteer days and book sales, so we really understand what the charity does to help people.

“This donation will be life changing! It’s really made me happy to know our local charity is going to be getting help from the organisation I work for. It has made me proud of The Nottingham.’

Sue Hayes, chief executive officer at Nottingham Building Society, added: “For over 170 years The Nottingham has been here to support communities, it’s intrinsic to who we are as a mutual. This Christmas, we thought it only fitting that our amazing colleagues were given the chance to nominate charities they know are making a different to their local area, to be the beneficiaries of funds from the foundation bearing the name of our philanthropic founder.

“The majority are small organisations doing incredible work in their communities. Many of which are also bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis themselves, doing their best to support those in need with limited resources. I couldn’t be prouder of the team for getting behind such fantastic causes.”
