Barclays extends Greener Home Reward scheme to drive energy efficiency in homes

Barclays has announced the extension of its Greener Home Reward scheme, a programme that offers up to £2,000 to its eligible residential mortgage customers for undertaking selected energy efficiency-related home improvements.

The scheme, which requires no additional lending, is open to both new and existing Barclays UK residential mortgage customers.

To avail of the cash reward, customers must register online and subsequently complete and pay for an approved energy efficiency-related home improvement.

The list of approved improvements includes the installation of an air-source heat pump, double or triple-glazed windows, solar panels, or home insulation.

Furthermore, to ensure high-quality workmanship, the improvements must be carried out by a TrustMark-registered business or tradesperson. TrustMark is a government-endorsed quality scheme that covers work a consumer chooses to have done in or around their home.

Speaking about the extension, Matt Hammerstein, CEO Barclays UK, said: “Doing more across the UK’s housing stock to manage carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency in homes will help offset energy costs.

“That’s why we have decided to extend registrations for our Greener Home Reward until the end of January 2024 to support more customers in heating and powering their homes more efficiently.”

Hammerstein also touched upon the misconceptions around the time and cost involved in making energy-efficient modifications, which were identified in Barclays’ research. “Our extension will also enable us to obtain greater insights to help us develop new products and services for our customers.

“We hope this extension opens the door to more homeowners planning improvements – while also providing a welcome financial boost to help them make changes ahead of next winter,” he added.
