Wayhome to grow ops team by 57% next month, driven by ex-Nationwide lead James Evans

Wayhome – the Gradual Homeownership provider – has committed to an impressive 57% increase of its operations team by the end of February.

This will see the operations team grow from 21 to a total of 33 people. Following the rapid recruitment drive, Wayhome’s full team will total more than 70 hybrid-working employees.

This growth, which is set to continue throughout 2022, is part of the plan meet ambitious growth plans.

Following Wayhome’s Gradual Homeownership scheme launch in August 2021, the provider has seen monthly applications double. The 12 new positions across Wayhome’s Operations team are live from today. These will lead to the specialism of certain roles within the customer services team – as well as helping improve customer user experience.

The team is headed up by James Evans, head of operations. With over 10 years’ experience in the financial services sector, most recently at Nationwide Building Society, Evans joined Wayhome in June 2021.

At Nationwide, he was responsible for developing the operational team and helped bring about the launch of its Business Banking product as well as developing the lender’s new internal operations model.

As part of the recruitment drive, Wayhome is also seeking its first customer success managers with experience in Shariah compliance and Islamic finance.

This comes after Gradual Homeownership being certified as Shariah-compliant by various Islamic scholars.  These roles will be responsible for supporting customers who want to buy a home according to their Islamic beliefs.

Nigel Purves, CEO of Wayhome, said: “Wayhome is growing, and fast. Customers are jumping at the chance to access an alternative route to homeownership, and we’re committed to getting more people on the property ladder and into their new homes as quickly as we can.

“This means we need more hands-on deck. James and his team will accelerate us on our mission of freeing people from the cycles of renting and onto the property ladder. We need the best talent on board to help deliver on our plans, and we look forward to seeing more brilliant people join the team in the weeks ahead.”
