Hampden & Co appoints Martin Hillyer to bolster intermediary relationships

Hampden & Co has announced the appointment of Martin Hillyer as its new intermediary relationship director.

Reporting to Hannah Berridge, head of professional partnerships, Hillyer’s primary focus will be on nurturing and expanding relationships with mortgage intermediaries, alongside other professional intermediaries, to provide bespoke borrowing solutions for clients.

Hillyer’s appointment comes at a time when Hampden & Co is experiencing a surge in demand from mortgage brokers, wealth managers, financial advisers, accountants, and solicitors, as highlighted by an 8% increase in client numbers in the first half of 2023, reaching over 5,000 clients. This growth is significantly attributed to the influx of introductions from intermediaries.

Bringing a wealth of experience from his previous role at Weatherbys Private Bank, where he served as senior business development executive, Hillyer has a proven track record in managing relationships with introducers and intermediaries. His career also includes significant positions at Barclays, notably as head of key clients – wealth business development.

In response to the growing client demand, Hampden & Co has been actively enhancing its banking and senior management teams throughout 2023, including notable hires such as Mark Plummer as head of private banking in London and Claire Mann as the bank’s inaugural head of client propositions.

Hillyer said: “Intermediaries really value working with partners who can serve their clients well and that is where Hampden & Co excels. I very much look forward to enhancing the bank’s intermediary relationships.”

Berridge added: “We are delighted to welcome Martin to the Hampden & Co team. He has extensive knowledge of intermediation in the private banking and wealth market and his proven ability to develop and deepen professional relationships will be key to our continued success.”
