Sort Legal named as Top SME Apprenticeship Employer

Derby-based law firm Sort Legal has been recognised as one of the UK’s top apprenticeship employers, ranking 24th in the Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employer 2023 awards.

With a primary office in Derby and a second location in Cardiff, Sort Legal has recently heavily invested in apprenticeships to bolster its long-term growth plans.

Initiated in 2020, the annual employer rankings are developed by the Department of Education in partnership with High Fliers Research. They independently evaluate and rank the country’s top apprenticeship employers.

The Top Apprenticeship SME Employer category examines employers with up to 249 employees based on various criteria including the number of apprenticeships started in the past year, the diversity of new apprentices, and the number of apprentices who successfully completed their apprenticeship in the past 12 months, including passing the End-Point Assessment (EPA).

The Conveyancing industry has suffered a decline in recruitment, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, leading to an exodus of many from the industry.

This trend prompted Sort Legal to explore the apprenticeship path. The award is a testament to the hard work of their apprentices and reflects Sort Legal’s significant investment in their recruitment, growth, and development strategy.

CEO Kevin Tunnicliffe (pictured) said: “We are thrilled to be named 24th in the Top 50 SME Apprenticeship Employers of 2023.

“It’s a significant accolade we are incredibly proud of. At Sort Legal, we are dedicated to training and developing our employees, offering not just jobs, but careers they can be proud of.

“This award honours the effort everyone has invested in our recruitment strategy.”
